COLORADO ROCKIES PROGRAMS

Wheelchair softball found its way to Colorado in 1996 and was designed to help promote Coloradoans with disabilities actively participate in America's Greatest Pastime. Since its inception, countless individuals with physical impairments have learned to compete on an equal yet competitive playing field through the introduction of wheelchair softball.

Many of our players, both past and present, have learned to become active and productive members of society both directly and indirectly through the self confidence-building techniques one learns through team sports.

Our mission is to further support the introduction of the sport to children, women and minorities with physical disabilities as well as to foster an avenue for elite athletes to compete at their highest playing level.

2006 Season Overview

The 2006 wheelchair softball season is fast approaching and we are getting ready for a great year!  With the introduction of the brand-new Jason Jennings Adaptive Field in Lakewood, this season promises to be a successful one.

Colorado Wheelchair Softball is planning an ambitious season with the introduction of a new junior team - the Rookie Rockies and a national women's program to compliment our local men's team.  The 2006 schedule should be available sometime in May.  In the meantime, please find more information about these programs below.

Rookie Rockies

Children in Colorado have a distinct advantage over most other junior wheelchair softball players as they have been afforded the opportunity to play the sport since it has been available in the state for the past ten years. Events such as the Colorado Junior Wheelchair Camp, the National Sports Center for the Disabled Baseball Clinic and the Adaptive Adventure Softball Clinic have helped introduce the sport statewide.

This year, we plan to create a team for our junior athletes and conduct weekly practices and games.
For more information, please feel free to contact us.

Lady Rockies

In 2003, the Colorado Rockies Wheelchair Softball Program helped to develop the first-ever women's wheelchair softball team - the American Divas. Over 30% of the team that year were from Colorado.  This year, we plan to attract women athletes nationwide to bring a contending all-women's team to the National Wheelchair Softball Tournament in Chicago.
