After being injured in a car accident in 1974, I have
enjoyed participating in a variety of wheelchair sports
activities for the last thirty years. I started out playing
wheelchair basketball in college under the legendary Lew
Shaver, and after graduation I continued to play basketball
for 25 years with the Rolling Thunder, Rolling Gophers and
Rolling Timberwolves. Track and field was a favorite of
mine as I took part in ten straight years of national
competitions, highlighted by the priviledge of competing
with the USA Team in 1987 and 1989 at Stoke Mandeville,
winning a bronze medal in the Pentathlon in 1987. I was also
named as an alternate on the 1988 USA Track and Field
Paralympic team. Over the years I've also completed numerous
roadracing 10k's and marathons. Most enjoyable was playing
wheelchair softball for 23 years with the awesome Rolling
Thunder, and we were lucky enough to be able to capture 12
national championships during those years. That was a lot of
fun! Now as my competitive career winds down, I've
been enjoying handcycling, and not to be merely a "dumb
jock", am very close to completing a Masters degree in
Telecommunications. Its truly been a great ride.
