Dale Erickson Hall of Fame

 

 

 

The 31st Annual National Wheelchair Softball was held in St.. Paul August 23-25,2007 with the Nebraska Barons winning the double elimination tournament beating the St. Paul Saints in back to back games.  The Barons started out the day in the losers bracket beating the #2 seeded Minnesota Twins winning three straight games for the championship.  At the National banquet, SMSU wheelchair BB head coach Dale Erickson, was inducted into the National Wheelchair Softball Hall of Fame.  As the 2007 Inductee, Erickson becomes the 26th individual to join this Hall of Fame group.  Erickson was the starting catcher on the St. Paul Rolling Thunder team that created a dynasty through the 1990’s in wheelchair softball.  The Rolling Thunder claimed National titles in 1989, 1991-1996, 1998, 1999, and 2001.  Erickson was a ten time National Champion in his 15 year career and was selected to the National All-Tournament team 5 years as Catcher and Best Quad..  Coach Erickson stated, “I’m honored to receive such an award for playing a game I loved.  Wheelchair softball is a team game and I was surrounded by a great group of teammates who wanted to win and have fun as much as I did.  We were nearly unbeatable through the 90’s.”
