CVS Sponsors Junior Program

NWSA's Junior Program Hit's home run with CVS

The National Wheelchair Softball Association (NWSA) is excited to announce that CVS Pharmacy, through their charitable foundation: CVS Caremark -All Kids Can, as the official sponsor of NWSA’s new division of wheelchair softball for children. The sponsorship by CVS Pharmacy will allow NWSA to promote new team development, provide team support, distribute marketing and advertising materials, conduct educational clinics, identify softball equipment, provide regular season tournament oversight, and host an end-of-year national championship tournament.

“CVS Caremark All Kids Can truly demonstrates the company's dedication to giving people the support they need to reach their greatest potential and live longer, healthier, happier lives. We want to make a very real, positive impact so that children of all abilities have the opportunity to learn, play and succeed in life,” stated Ms. Veilleux.

In 2007 NWSA hosted a national championship tournament for juniors and young adults in St. Paul, Minnesota. Teams from Omaha, Minneapolis, and Chicago competed. The junior division is being established by NWSA specifically to provide an opportunity for disabled youths to enjoy the thrills and experiences of America’s pastime. As a result of their disabilities many children are left out of experiencing the joys provided by competitive athletics. But just like their classmates in school who play in YMCA and other competitive leagues, disabled children should have the opportunity to experience and joys, sense of belonging to a team, health benefits, and all the life lessons provided by playing athletics. NWSA has structured a division especially for these children with modified rules for NWSA’s adult division.

NWSA plans to directly solicit and recruit many of the 40+ nation wide teams that play in the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) junior division for membership. NWSA is creating an assistant commissioner position on its executive council to oversee the development of the junior division.
